This strange creature will stalk you as you browse through the toy section ready to pounce on you with her "served by" stickers ! So be warned...expect the flash of a white sticker and the mark of the store stalker on your toys !

Rounding of the cents !

On 1st April..no April Fools joke, the Malaysian Government moved to phase out the 1 cent coin by getting all business to round up or down as appropriate, the totals to the nearest 5 cents. Works like this :

Totals that end in 0.01 or 0.02 will be considered as 0
eg RM 5.02 will be rounded down to RM 5.00

Total that end in 0.02, 0.03, 0.06 or 0.07 will be considered as 0.05
eg RM 5.03 will be rounded to RM 5.05
RM 5.07 will be rounded to RM 5.05

Totals that end in 0.08 or 0.09 will be considered as 0.10
eg RM 5.08 will be rounded up to RM 5.10

But hang on ...I found out that the Post Office is not implementing the rounding yet ...!!??
Why is it that after the government has spent so much money promoting and educating everyone on the rounding, one of the biggest institutions is still holding out on this ?? Go figure. So does that mean that if we pay our utility bills at the office we may save or lose money depending on our final total ??? Interesting thought. It is not much but guess it is a matter of principle. Wonder if any other countries have gone through this or is about to ? Love to hear from you.

Dollars of Savings at Jusco Sale Today !

Just went out to the Jusco Sale at Queensbay mall here in Penang. I bought 2 cupboards which were mark down by 10% and saved over RM 30 plus got 3 x RM 5 vouchers for being a J-card holder. So in total I saved RM 45 ! How Cool is that ?

Some times to be a smart shopper is to know when to buy things. Jusco has this regular 1st of the month promotion so planning and timing is quite easy.

Little Rewards

Just got the rewards for Tesco shopping. Got discount vouchers for oh....RM 3.50 ! Wow, can really go wild with this :) ..not !

Not sure if this is really encouraging me to shop there or was it better when they were partnered with Bonuslink which is a much larger rewards program, and at least you can see your points accumulated faster with other outlets contributing. Sometimes it is better to be part of a large reward program so that your customers will feel it is more beneficial for them besides it would have been easier to let other people to manage the program. What do I know right....?! Any way it is still money back in the pocket so should not gripe.

Did you know that you can be rewarded twice for your purchases ?

Take Starbucks for example. With my favorite Mocha, I get 10% discount with my J-card and also 10 x rewards points with my HSBC card. Last month with an additional promotion on my HSBC card, I also got a rebate of almost RM20 ! So that make 3 times rewards for the 1 purchase. Now this is something that I was going to do anyway but I benefited 3 times. Obviously the RM 20 rebate did not come from one transaction, but for the month that is quite a good way to stretch your dollar !

Great Rewards for shopping

There are many rewards or customer loyalty programs that are available today. Some give you more benefits then others so as a shopper, you need to understand the rewards being offered and make the best shopping decision based on your returns for your shopping.

If place A and B sell the same thing at the same price, then check out if either have a rewards program and which one will give you the most benefits. Definitely shop at the place where you will gain the best return either be a free gift, more points which will convert into free gifts, cash vouchers or money.

One great customer loyalty or rewards program is the Jusco card or J-Card. I recently just collected RM 140 just for 6 months of shopping with this card, and my expenditure is not really that high here as I also shop at a few other places. This is just for doing my normal grocery shopping, toys and sometimes clothing. Isn't that great to be paid to shop ?
